ABSTRACT

Background: This study examined the impacts of an Emotional Focused Intervention on emotional abuse behaviors and marital satisfaction among the elderly married couples


Methods: This randomized controlled trial study was carried out in Shiraz-Iran, during September 2013-2014. The elderly couples were invited to join an emotional focused intervention, following the advertisement and announcement on bulletin boards in the elderly day clinic centers and all governmental primary health care centers. Then, 57 couples [114 participants] who were eligible for study were assigned in two groups by block randomization [29 in the experimental and 28 in the control group[.The couples in the experimental group received intervention twice a week for four weeks. Each session lasted 90 minutes. The control group didn't receive any intervention and the subjects were put in the waiting list. The outcome measures were evaluated by Multidimensional Measure of Emotional Abuse Questionnaire [MMEAQ] and Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire for Older People [MSQFOP]. Repeated measurement ANOVA was used to detect any significant changes between groups in their mean scores of emotional abuse behaviors and marital satisfaction from pre- to post-test, and 3 months after the intervention. Results: The mean duration of marriage was 39.56+/-9.64 years. In the experimental group, the abusive behaviors decreased significantly [P<0.001] at times 2 and 3 compared with time 1, and marital satisfaction improved significantly only at time 3 [P<0.001]. These differences were not significant in the control group


Conclusion: Emotion-focused couple-based interventions are helpful in reducing the spousal emotional abuse and improving marital satisfaction in among the elderly couples

ABSTRACT

Objective [s]: Chronic character of diabet and complications decreases quality of life. According to Chronic character of illness use of suitable follow up is necessary .Thus. This study was designed to investigate the Effect of Nurse-led Telephone Follow up [Telenursing] on Quality of life among diabetic patients.


Methods: In This quasi experimental study seventy diabetic patients selected with convenience sampling method .Data gathering instruments included a questionnaire for demographic variable and SF36 questionnaire for measurement Quality of life. Data gathered at baselin and 12 weeks after the intervention. Participants randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Telephone follow ups were applied in experiment group for 3 months; data were analized with SPSS software.


Results: Results showed that there was no significant difference in demographic variable and quality of life dimension between two group before intervention, but there was a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention in terms of scores quality of life in physical health [P<0.001] and emotional health [P=0.009]. Based on the results of applied paired t-test, there was a significant difference before and after the intervention in the case group in terms of their mean quality of life.


Conclusion: According to the result Nurse-led Telephone Follow up [Telenursing] has Been highly effective on the diabetic patients' quality of life and we suggest this method to be applied on wider range in this patient and other chronic diseases

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the effect of a rehabilitation program on quality of life in breast cancer patients. Fifty-seven patients who underwent modified radical mastectomy, had finished chemotherapy and radiotherapy and received hormone therapy were selected and randomly assighned into case and control groups. Control group was under medical care and the case group in addition to medical care received a rehabilitation program [physiotherapy, education and individual counseling] for two months. Quality of life was measured by the EORTC QLQ C30 before one week and 3 months after rehabilitation in both groups. Before intervention there were statistically significant differences in physical [P< 0.001] and emotional functioning [P= 0.02] in cases compared to control group, while no other significant differences were observed in other scale. One week after the program, differences among two groups in 6 scales were significant indicating a better condition in intervention group. Three months after the intervention the cases showed a statistical meaningful improvments in 11 scales. Rehabilitation programs might improve the quality of life after mastectomy in breast cancer patients
